Reading- This week we are reviewing context clues, and compound sentences. We are taking a fresh look at complex sentences.
Writing-We are continuing our narrative writing. Today we discussed paragraphs and when a new paragraph is needed in our writing (*When time moves forward, a new person talks, and when we start a new subtopic. ) We will continue to revise our drafts.
Social Studies- This week we begin our unit on Democracy! Wahoo! This is a fun, but hefty unit. If you should find yourself over by city hall, take that opportunity to point out the dome on top of the building, and talk about who works in city hall. :) In class, we will discuss what a democracy is and how we adopted democracy and architecture from Greece. Children will be expected to know where Greece is located, and key features of architecture we acquired from Greece. We will also begin looking at the three branches of government.
Volunteers-Please remember that all volunteers have to go to the SAE website and sign up to be a volunteer. It takes 48 hours to have your name approved, so it isn’t something that can be done at the last minute. After your name is approved Mrs. Parkman puts your driver’s license through the machine, and the process is complete. After this portion of the process is complete, you (the volunteer) signs in and it prints a sticker with your name on it.
Mystery Reader- Our first mystery reader of the year is this Friday. We look forward to seeing you at 1:30. :)
Science Lab- Our first scheduled science lab is Sept 15th from 9-9:45. George Weston has sent out a sign up for this. Please consider volunteering if you're able.
Hearing and Vision screening is Wednesday. Please make sure your child has their glasses at school.
