100th DAY!- The 100th day of school is this Wednesday! On Friday you recieved a paper that had an item highlighted. If you could please send in that item by Wednesday morning with your child, our whole class would appreciate it! :) We will be rotating classrooms that morning and we will be focusing on how to make 100 many different ways. We will also have a snack at the end of the day with the items that are provided.
Family Focus Night, Tuesday, Jan 31st
In Math, we are learning about balancing equations, seeing if they are true/false, and working on word problems with missing addends. We are also working on word problems in class that have a bit of repeated subtraction so to say. For example, Tom has 15 melons. He sells 3 to his neighbor, 2 to his brother, and gives 4 to his children. How many melons does he have left? We will be sending home the study guide on Monday, January 30th, and the assessment for Unit 3 Part B will be on Friday, Feb 3rd.
Reading/ELA/Writing- We are writing about our collections to get us into the swing of opinion writing. In reading we are focusing on finding similarities and differences in two texts on the same topic (informational), and in language arts we are beginning to work on recognizing and using frequently occurring conjunctions. (I introduced it with FANBOYS.....For And Nor But Or Yet So.) .....Reading homework.... Even though I have noticed the children haven't been writing Read 10 minutes in their agenda nightly, it is encouraged to continue reading nightly with your child. This can be you reading to them, or them reading to you, or a combo of both. (It is even great if you have a sibling or pet they can read to.)
Science- This week we are continuing to study animals. We have learned there are different classifications of animals, and that animals have habitats and shelters they live in, and different needs to survive. (This has lent itself to learning a bit about adaptations to help animals survive.) The children have created themselves as different animals, and this week they will be doing a research project on animals. :)
