Wow this school year is flying by!
Nightly homework= Knots on a Counting Rope booklet. The children will add a story of their birth/childhood to this booklet nightly and share in class on Thursday. This week we will have our Math Unit 2 part B assessment on Wednesday, November 16th. We will NOT have school on Friday, November 18th. (This is an SAE no school day.) Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for helping in the science lab!!! The kids LOVED playing their magnet games. :) This week we are working on using commas in a series using adjectives. (This is a slight change from what I anticipated us doing which was mentioned in the previous post.) We are continuing to work on infomational writing. Social Studies-THis week we are focusing on Lewis/Clark & Sacajawea. We are learning about their journey (Voyage of Discovery) and the purpose for their journey. (To explore the land of the Louisiana Purchase by the order of Thomas Jefferson and to find a way to the Pacific Ocean.) Tomorrow (11/8/16)= NO SCHOOL!!! Go out and enjoy the weather or vote.
Tonight- Chick Fil A spirit night 4-7 This week in class… Math- The study guide is coming home on Wednesday for Unit 2 part B. This section is focusing on pennies and dimes. Please continue to work on coin recognition (especially the tail side of coins). Today we did some word problems in class similar to those on the assessment and study guide. The assessment will be on Wednesday, Nov 16th. RELA- In reading we are working on informational texts and understanding how they are set up. We are not necessarily talking about headers, photo and other text features, but we are talking about how an author uses those items to get points across in text. With regard to grammar we are starting to work on adjectives!!! This week we will focus on the fact that adjectives describe nouns. Next week, we will work on adjectives that compare (comparatives/superlatives- bigger, biggest) This week is basic-red, five, happy, etc. In writing, we are working on our informational chapter book!!! We are focusing on thinking of a topic, and getting ideas on our fingers. We are taking it a step further to get them thinking about if they could say more for each of their ‘fingers’. Example- I will talk about barre. I need to tell my reader what it is, what they need to get ready, how to look and listen, and what to do when they get tired. (Those are my ‘finger talks’ I will then need to use one page for each of those and really break down what is happening. Social Studies This week we are finishing our science stem project so we can work on it in the lab on Wednesday 1:15-2. Then we will begin working on Lewis/Clark & Sacagewea. |
