Reading/ELA- We are continuing to write our personal narratives of a small moment in our lives. This week we are focusing on our spelling (by saying our words slowly), revision, and really focusing on the details. Sometimes we get caught in the big picture and forget the great details. :) As far as phonics go, we are working with short /i/ sound. In reading, we are working on ways to tell if a book is a good fit for us. We are also focusing on Daily 5 routines so when we start reading groups after Labor Day the children will be independent during the reading block and I will be able to give more attention to each reading group. When it comes to conventions, we are focusing on asking vs. telling sentences and knowing the difference. We will go over key question words (Who, What, etc..) and determine which punctuation mark to use for different types of sentences.
Social Studies- We are switching to Social Studies this week and next, and will be studying the incredible life of Thomas Jefferson, or TJ as I like to call him. :) We will learn about who he was, and what his impact was on society. The main character traits to take away from TJ are fairness and respect.
