RELA- In regards to grammar this week we are introducing the new skills of VERBS! Yay! This week we are focusing on the more basic aspect that a verb is an action word. Next week we will look at past, present, and future tense of verbs.
With regards to reading, we are working on building connections between texts. Last week we connected a story to our own lives, but this week we are comparing stories to each other. For example....Mark Brown writes Arthur books. Children can compare the adventures that Arthur goes on in two different Arthur books. With writing, we are working on 'how-to' books. Last week we got to blow a bubble of bubble gum and write the steps on how to blow a bubble. Now that we have all experienced this, we are ready to start writing our own how-to pieces. This will extend through the beginning of next week, then we will begin our informational chapter books! Yes, you heard right. Your little one will begin writing a chapter book! Our how- to pieces help students begin thinking about the non-fiction genre of writing and are a great intro to informational writing.
Social Studies- Ben Franklin is in his final week as the children have learned all about his inventions and ways he contributed to our country. They will be working on a digital project this week and I cannot wait to share it with all of you!
