Today we had such a good time with Mrs. Head. Thanks for bringing in crafts to get us ready for the 100th day of school!!! (It was today, however with the day off school, it will now be Monday.) We made the number 100 with food, and we got to have a race to see who could build the tallest tower with 100 marshmallows.
This upcoming week, we will work on fractions as sets, groups, and equivalent fractions. Equivalent fractions can be very challenging to understand, but having your child help in the kitchen with measuring cups is a great way to help reinforce the concept. You could also talk to them about splitting groups/sets into portions for the family. Example, we got 44 fries in the container, and there are 4 of us, how can we share them equally? Simple division, but also understanding that each person gets 11/44 or 1/4 of the fries. Pretty cool how you can incorporate math into your everyday activities. :)
With regards to reading, we will be working on setting, plot, literal/nonliteral language, different kinds of literature, and different kinds of stories this week. Homework will be slightly different. There will be no reading bags, or choice boards. We will focus on Study Island two nights (they are already activated in case you want to do them over the weekend) and we will simply respond to our nightly reading the other two nights.
Next week, we will begin learning about Thurgood Marshall and his contributions to our society. Can you believe that he memorized the constitution?! He did it as a young boy because he teachers told him to read it, just to keep him busy. That sure did help him out when he became a
