We are also working on skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's up to 120. The challenge is when we start at any given number besides 2, 5, or 10. ;)
Reading- In reading we are focusing on how predictions help us as readers, and how we can confirm our predictions. We are also working on visualization (which you saw a picture of today.) Children were read a detailed poem and asked to draw what they were visualizing. By getting a picture in their head, they are more likely to 'involve' themselves in the story they are reading, and that is a trait that good readers use.
In writing, we are continuing to write small moments, but we are now learning how to work with a writing partner to help us bring out more details in our writing. Partners are encouraged not only to listen, but to question in order to probe the writer into writing more details.
In language and grammar we are working on the short /u/ sound, and on synonyms (words that are the same.)
Social Studies/Science- This week we are finishing up our unit on Thomas Jefferson. The children have worked hard to create mini speeches as if they were Thomas Jefferson, and additionally, they have drawn some pretty interesting 'self-portraits' as TJ. :) We will begin our Science unit on sound later this week, and we will learn about how sound is produced.
