Writing- We will be finishing up a narrative writing piece this week. (At least that's the plan.) This will be our first piece of writing that we have taken all the way through the writing process.
Reading- This week we are beginning our three week unit on Folktales. Did you know there are different types of folktales? Well there are. There are fairy tales (always a happy ending), Tall Tales (unbelievable exaggerations told as it were a true story), Legends (usually have a connection to a real person, but has fictional elements), Myths (describe something that occurred in nature), and Fables (that teach us a lesson.)
We will focus on Fairy Tales and Fables this week in class, but all will be introduced this week. We will also look at run on sentences, and common/proper nouns, as well as root words. We are always busy!
Social Studies- In social studies we are continuing to work on Government. Our focus will be checks/balances, state and local government responsibilities, personal rights and responsibilities, and we'll also discuss Constitution Day since it's Sept 17th. :)
