Math- In math next week, we will begin disucssing area and we will continue to work on multiplication facts. This unit is another unit on mutliplication and division, but this time we are looking at the memorization of facts and being able to apply these facts to higher order problems, such as word problems, and area.
Reading/Writing/Language Arts- We will continue writing our informational piece of writing. The children have been introduced to safe search engines in order to help them research for their writing. (If you go to the SAE homepage, click on students, choose Media Center, and then on the left hand side choose KidSafeSearchEngines.) :) Specific reading and grammar skills we will focus on are: contractions with 'not', suffixes (-ish, -y, -ly, -ful), and the text structure of sequence.
Social Studies- We have studied Susan B. Anthony this past week. The children really enjoyed being able to connect the fact that this week was election day and she was an advocate for women's rights and voting rights. This week we will discuss Frederick Douglass who was also an advocate for voting rights.
Field Trip- Thank you to all who were willing to be chaperones for our class. It was a lottery style drawing. The parents that were chosen were George Whittle, George Weston, Kim Friedman, and Latasha Hall.
Volunteering-If you have not signed up as a volunteer this year, I highly encourage you to do so right away. It takes 48 business hours to process. You need to be cleared as a volunteer to do science lab, mystery reader, craft helper, and winter/spring parties. We LOVE having you in the class!!! :) (Just to be clear, this is a Fulton County policy that took effect this year. It is not a Sweet Apple policy.)
