Reading/ELA- We are comparing and contrasting two similar texts, or texts by the same author. Today, we compared The Diary of a Spider, The Diary of a Worm, and The Diary of a Fly. They did a great job with that ever though they were comparing all three texts at the same time. Throughout the week, we will continue this, but we dig into more in-depth questions than the basic, who was it about, where did it happen type of questions. We're questioning the genre, organizational structure, and purpose for reading the text. We will work on some of the lower level questions, but only to help us answer the question of What is the prompt/question asking me to do? We are working toward getting children into a deeper understanding when reading. We will be focusing on Thurgood Marshall passages to help us with this standard throughout the week.
Science/Social Studies- We will continue working on economy through the end of the week. Our economy test will be on Thursday. The children came home with a study guide today to help them review. The study guide and a copy with answers can be found on the class website under the curricululm section above. We will be going into magnets next, and heat. The children already know so much about magnets, so we will briefly work on magnets in school before starting on heat.
BYOT- The children have done a great job earning compliments and for their reward they have chosen BYOT. If your child does not have a device, or chooses not to bring one, not to worry; we have devices in the school they can use. BYOT will be Wednesday, March 11th. (*I'm really hoping our internet works. Last week the internet was down for multiple days and went out again today at 2pm.) If that were to happen, we would plan a 'rain date' for the occassion.
Friday, March 13th. We DO have school. It was originally planned as a teacher workday but due to inclement weather, it is a make-up day.
Wednesday- March 11th Our school always participates in helping Relay for Life and this year we are having our first Fun Run. To get excited about the Fun Run, we as a grade level have the team name of Thrilling Third, and we will be wearing bright pink, or neon green this WednesdThis will be help Sunday, March 29th. A flyer came home, and is in the SLICE (virtual) in case you would like to participate. The early registration fee is good until this Friday.
