Reading- This week we will be working with fiction and we will review parts of a story, as well as sequence in relation to chapters. In regards to language arts, we have begun looking at abstract nouns (marriage, childhood, dream, etc). These are totally new to third graders. :) For writing we are trying to finish up our informational writing piece from before the break. The children are typing their writing. If you have a flash drive that you feel comfortable with them bringing to school to use, they are more than welcome to use it at school and continue typing at home.
Science- We will begin fossils tomorrow. This is always an exciting unit for the kids.
Homework-
This week, they will only be required to read for 20minutes (and record) and practice their spelling words (for language arts). I am planning on implementing a new approach to reading homework next week. I'm still working out the details with another teacher, but I want the students to be more accountable for their reading. I will be monitoring their reading and there will be incentives for milestones met. :) (More to come next week. :) )
