Reading- In reading this week we are studying dramas. Children are reading reader's theater scripts and will be performing them on Friday. For the language arts portion, we are focusing on abstract nouns such as childhood, marriage, year, justice. Abstract nouns are nouns that you cannot use one of your five senses to verify. (When we were kids we used to call these nouns, 'ideas'.)
Science- We are rocking along with Fossils in science! So far we have learned that there are different types of fossils (trace/imprint, cast -like a sand castle, mold-like a muffin tin, amber-hardened sap, and petrified wood. We have also learned that fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock and how they are formed. Next week we will have our science lab on Tuesday the 20th 9-9:45. We hope to see you there. (Please remember to sign up on the Fulton County page to make sure you can come and volunteer. This usually takes 48 business hours....link provided below.)
Homework: This week's homework is a menu (that looks similar to our previous menu), except it is to last a whole month, and the spelling (appetizer) portion has been done away. If you would like a list of ways to practice spelling with your child, please send me an email and I will gladly forward you this information. :) So...your child should have come home with a book to read for the month. This is the book they will use to complete their homework. On the back of the menu is a calendar. Your child is responsible for writing the title of the book and how many minutes read per night on the calendar. They are still assigned 20minutes of reading each week night. By logging their minutes, I will tally up how many minutes they read in a month and move them along a timeline in our classroom. When they reach certain milestones in time, they will earn a reward. Each milestone is different. In addition to their menu, there will be study island assigned. *This month we are doing them in class, but you are ALWAYS more than welcome to have your child practice Study Island at home anytime. This greatly helps reinforce (and in some cases introduce new) topics (if we have not yet studied them in class.)
