Reading/ELA- This week we are looking at point of view and how our point of view is similar or differs from that of the author/characters, shades of meaning (word choice), and subject-verb agreement. To help understand word choice, we created a 'salsa' chart with mild, medium, and hot words. Some examples of words were: mild-happy, medium-joyful, hot-jubilant. :) This not only helps them as writers to make their writing more powerful, but it also helps them comprehend the depth of emotion an author is portraying within a text. When it comes to writing, we are in the very beginning stages of writing a personal essay, which we will develop into an opinion piece in the next two weeks.
Social Studies- This week we are studying Eleanor Roosevelt and her many accomplishments throughout her life. We are learning how she was a dedicated humble servant to others even though she was of wealth and power. Next week, we will start our economics unit which will last about 3 weeks.
***Homework- Last month we tried doing a month long homework menu. For some it was great, but for others it was not. We are meeting in the middle and trying a two week long menu. If your child could please keep their 'homework novel' in their backpack that would be very helpful. That way, we can discuss what has been read at home, and extend it into the classroom, and vice versa.
WEDNESDAY!!! Tomorrow is Family Focus night. There will be no homework, no emails, and no papers sent home with students. This is a night to recharge and connect with our families.
